How to Believe the Universe is a Badass Too! (And Always Working on Your Behalf)

Hello, my make-it-happen mavens!

This whole month, we’ve been talking about how to manifest abundance in our lives, how to attract more positive experiences, people and thoughts to create a happier and healthier you.

But with all this light, there is often a dark little gremlin that creeps on in.

I’m talking about disappointment that you haven’t reached your goal yet, impatience to see quick results, and doubt in the process. All the sneaky negative emotions that distract you from your own energetic greatness.

This is where getting out of your own way really comes into play. There are always things happening; you’re just not seeing them… yet!

It takes focus, faith and practice to overcome this hurdle, but it’s totally doable. You’re a rockstar, after all!

So, here are four things to remember when you’re feeling discouraged that the manifesting process has not yet given you the results that you’re wishing for.

It’s Right Under Your Nose.

Whenever I am having a conversation with the Universe, I always ask that whatever messages it has for me are given to me in a way that I can understand. I open myself up to receive those messages, and I ask that the Universe grant me the ability to recognize those gifts when they come my way.

This is such an important part of manifesting. If you are only focused on figuring out why something great hasn’t happened yet, you miss out on all the good things to be grateful for that are happening all day, every day—little strokes of luck and synchronicities that are happening all around you.

I recently had a day that was filled with positive synchronicities. Traffic flowed smoothly on the way to my first appointment of the day, and I arrived early and relaxed. I was obligated to attend a work event that night, but I really wasn’t feeling it and considered flaking out. My colleague convinced me to show up, even for just an hour. Luckily, I already had my hair and make-up done from an earlier event, so I was able to just change clothes and go. As soon as I committed to being open, I got an invitation from good friends to meet for drinks at the very SAME location. And while at the event, I ran into another old friend that I would never have gotten to catch up with had I stayed home in my jammies.

It felt like everything worked out perfectly that day, and I know that feeling is a product of being receptive to the gifts the Universe was sharing with me.

Manifesting Is Not Like A Vending Machine.

I love that the Law of Attraction is so on trend now, but its popularity can also be sort of misleading. There is often the assumption that manifesting requires no work.

For example, you cannot decide, “Okay, I’m going to manifest the man of my dreams,” make a long list of specifics, read it every morning and then stay home every night. That is not the path to making yourself available to meet said man, and you know it.

Be specific, read your list, read books that help you grow and learn, but, girl, you also gotta get outside. Do activities that bring you joy—sign up for a hiking group, attend singles mixers, sample wine tastings, try online dating—as long as it is fun! This way, you are joyfully putting yourself out there where this person, who is probably already in your realm, is looking for you too. He’s not going to find you on your couch while bingeing Girlboss on Netflix.

Bottom line: You have to do the heavy lifting.

Stop Watching The Clock.

I know this is a hard one. In today’s world, everything is on a schedule, from the subway to our food delivery to our beauty routines, and especially how we think our lives should unfold. But the thing about manifesting is that you don’t know what the timeline is.

It is out of your control, so it’s going to take trust —and remaining present in the process.

Stop putting a microscope over every single thing that doesn’t go according to plan. While you’re at it, stop complaining about it to your pals too; that just keeps the negative in the forefront of your mind. Believe it or not, those “minor disasters” are actually there to help clarify your vision. Sometimes, the Universe helps you figure out what you want by reminding you of what you don’t want.

By staying committed to the things you want to bring into your life, and more than anything else, committed to overall joy, love and happiness, you will attract those same things into your life. If your main desire is to feel love, trust that you’ll be given all you need to experience that feeling.

That’s true manifesting. The sexy significant other or amazing, new job; that’s just icing on the cake.

And that brings me to my final point…

Be A Joy Junkie.

Positive thinking takes work. A different thought runs through our brain every 1.7 seconds, so it’s admittedly a cluttered space. This is where those practices that help you calm your mind come into play, like meditation or yoga. When you can actually hear your separate thoughts, you can pay better attention to how you feel at any given moment—and choose to think more productive thoughts.

For example, if you feel super fatigued, take a beat to evaluate what you’re thinking and feeling at that very moment. Ask yourself, “What thoughts are going through my head right now? I’m feeling really tired. OK, that’s fine, but am I feeling down in the dumps as a result? Yes, I’m feeling shameful that I’m not getting more done faster.

Then it becomes a process of shifting your thoughts from the negative to more constructive and positive ones: “I would rather feel joy, so maybe I ask the Universe to flood my consciousness with loving light and to lift my spirits and help me let go of the bad feeling so I can move forward.

Ask the Universe to help you transcend to a better mental space, and then do your part too. Start seeking out the things that are going to help you feel better in that moment, such as inspiring quotes, beautiful flowers, cuddly animals, etc. Those cat videos on YouTube don’t go viral for nothing. 😉

Practice creates presence. Don’t get caught up in how your manifestation is going to happen. Take inspired action that makes you feel good because the activities that bring you joy help you two-fold. You’ll feel better, and it will put you in a position to manifest what you want. You’ll be so filled with light, there won’t be any room for those dark gremlins of doubt and frustration.
